Self-Harm Safety Policy
Last updated: November 26, 2025
1. Purpose of This Policy
We are committed to maintaining a safe environment for all users. This page explains how our system identifies and responds
to messages that reference self-harm, suicide, or related crises. We publish this policy to provide transparency about
our safety practices and the steps we take when such content is detected.
2. Detection of Self-Harm Expressions
Our system may flag messages containing:
- Statements of intent or plans to self-harm or attempt suicide
- Expressions of suicidal ideation or intent
- Requests for instructions, encouragement, or assistance to self-harm
- Graphic descriptions of self-harm behaviors
Flagging is not punitive. Automated tools and/or trained reviewers may identify content meeting the above patterns to help ensure user safety.
3. Response & Intervention Procedure
When self-harm-related content is detected, our system may:
- Temporarily restrict or withhold the flagged message
- Show an immediate safety notification to the user explaining why the message was flagged
- Provide crisis-support resources and guidance to contact local emergency services if in danger
- Escalate for human review when required by internal safety policies
Our system does not provide professional medical or mental-health advice. These automated responses are only intended to connect people to appropriate support resources.
4. Crisis-Support Resources
- 988 — Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (United States) — available 24/7 by phone, chat, or text
